Where does our name come from?

Elephants in Main Street is a dynamic and innovative Team Building and Sales Consultancy. Our products, while fun and entertaining, bring teams together, enable individuals within teams to reach new levels of self-realisation and raise performance.

Our success starts with our ability to quickly assess our clients needs, find out where they are at and where they want to be. We are then able to customize and create interventions around those specific needs.

But the question on everyone’s lips is, “so where does the name come from?”

Steve Blades has always had a passion for and worked in the Human Resources and Team Development industry. In 1995 he decided to put all his knowledge and experience into running his own organization. As if one life changing decision was not enough, he also proposed to his childhood sweetheart, Melissa, whose background in corporate Public Relations was the perfect match in the business venture.

Together they set-off to Thailand on their honeymoon and to also research business opportunities in the East.

What did they find?

Fantastic people with an inner peace and a passion for life. The Thai people are exceptionally entrepreneurial and customer service driven. The Tauts (street salesmen) have an ability to predict what you need at that very moment. A quick example; "A gent spotted us in the lobby of our hotel, he took one look at Steve’s 2m frame and came to the conclusion that Steve battled to find good quality suits to fit. He approached us with an offer to tailor make suits – within 24 hours. Within 20 minutes there was a tailor in our hotel room with fabric samples and a tape measure. The next morning 3 exquisite suits were waiting for us when we awoke. Man, is that service or what? That very morning we stepped out into the streets of Bangkok to be met by the most incredible sight… In the middle of an eight lane main road was an elephant with his master perched on his back. As the streams of rickshaws, tuk-tuks, cars, trucks and bicycles bolted past, the elephant slowly and deliberately made his way through the mayhem. This amazing sight epitomized the very idea we wanted to convey to our market.

This energy, drive and the ability to make the impossible possible regardless of the chaos and demands that surround us on a daily basis is what differentiates us in the market. Hence the name, Elephants in Main Street".
